Ashesi University

Ashesi University is a private non-profit university located in Berekuso, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It was founded in 2002 with the aim of educating a new generation of ethical, entrepreneurial leaders in Africa. Ashesi is recognized as one of the finest universities in Africa, with a proven track record of fostering ethical leadership, critical thinking, an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to solve complex problems. We’re funding Ashesi University to provide 29 scholarships for young women from underprivileged backgrounds.

CHALLENGE

Today, only 9.4% of sub-Saharan Africans attend college. This 9.4% of the population go on to become Africa’s future leaders in business and government. The biggest barrier to expanding access to tertiary education in the region is student financing.

ACTION

Ashesi University offers a 4-year curriculum that fosters ethics and innovative thinking with the aim of changing the Africa of tomorrow. Its bachelor’s programme adopts a liberal arts college approach, combining a rigorous multidisciplinary core with degrees in Computer Science, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, and Engineering.

Students enrolled in Ashesi University come from 28 countries. 47% of them are women and 43% are on scholarships.

We’re supporting Ashesi University to provide 29 scholarships for young women from underprivileged backgrounds.

IMPACT

Ashesi has set an example for a high-impact education in Africa since opening in 2002. The Times Higher Education Impact Ranking in 2022 lists Ashesi as #1 in Ghana, and #7 in Africa, and among the world’s top 300, when it comes to universities helping the world achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
