Community Health Impact Coalition

The Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC) aims to make professional community health workers the norm worldwide by changing guidelines, funding and policy. An audacious 40-country movement, the Coalition now comprises thousands of community health workers and dozens of global health organizations in low- and middle-income countries that have a shared goal of improving community health system design. We fund CHIC to further advance this crucial work.

CHALLENGE

Community health workers bring primary health services straight to their neighbours’ doorsteps. They provide reliable information, carry out health promotion and prevention activities, implement vaccination campaigns and treat illness. In low- and middle-income countries, they are often the first point of care for vulnerable and underserved populations. Yet millions of them are not salaried, skilled, supervised and supplied, making their work less effective and healthcare inaccessible for patients.
