myAgro

myAgro helps farmers overcome poverty and food insecurity in West Africa. The organisation enables farmers to invest in high-quality seeds, fertilisers and tools well ahead of the next growing season. We’re supporting them to serve over 180,000 farmers in Senegal – 66% of them women - by the end of 2027.

Challenge

In rural Senegal, the majority of people make their living as smallholder farmers. Many experience poverty and often find themselves facing a cash flow problem: their incomes peak at harvest time, but their greatest expenditure is in the planting season, when they need to invest in quality seeds, fertilisers and tools. This is normally when their money has already run out.

Response

myAgro has pioneered a bank-less savings model that enables farmers to purchase a package of high-quality seeds, fertilisers and training through incremental payments into a layaway account. Farmers can make small payments into their account over time with support from a local myAgro sales team member, or directly from their own phone using Mobile Money. After six to eight months, when the savings target has been reached, the materials are delivered by myAgro in time for the planting season.

myAgro’s extensive local sales team network and call centre agents help to mobilise farmers and support them in purchasing materials.
