Challenge
While reforms in the last decade have led to considerable progress, Sierra Leone's national education system continues to face considerable challenges. Nearly 90% of school children in the country are unable to read and understand a simple text at the age of 10.
Response
Imagine Worldwide provides Sierra Leone's schools with tablet computers loaded with learning software so that children can improve their reading and mathematics skills. Solar installations ensure the tablets can be charged. No internet connection is needed since the software's content, which adjusts to each child's level, is pre-installed on the tablets. Children learn at their own pace in 30-minute sessions five times a week, complementing their teachers' instruction.
Imagine Worldwide has partnered with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Education to serve 217,000 children across 751 schools by the end of 2026.
