Semilla Nueva

Guatemala is the fourth-most malnourished country in the world, where over half of children are stunted. Semilla Nueva overcomes chronic malnutrition by collaborating with farmers, scientists and the government to promote biofortified crops. Biofortified corn and beans have been bred to provide consumers with far more nutrients. These new crops allow farmers to continue growing and eating what they always have, while dramatically improving the nutrition of the entire food system. Semilla Nueva works directly with farmers to test, improve and disseminate the new seeds, scaling countrywide through partnerships and commercial seed sales based on innovative social marketing campaigns. Semilla Nueva plans to reach one million people with more nutritious crops within the next five years.
