Obstetric fistula is the epitome of gender inequality. It only happens where systems are profoundly failing women and girls. This highly devastating condition has been compared to having your legs amputated. Despite the existence of a highly effective and affordable treatment, one million women still suffer in isolation. The problem is particularly severe in Madagascar with an estimated 50,000 women living with fistula. Operation Fistula is using data-science to fight this gender inequality. The organization places proven digital tools from the business sector into the hands of the frontline health workers focused on fistula. These tools precisely deploy funding and drive coordination. Operation Fistula is working to end obstetric fistula, for every woman everywhere.
